The story for the second album by Project Creation is this: The new planet named Pyther is now growing. The new beings and the civilization of the Floating World that created them and colonized the new planet, are now living together: humans, meka dragonflies, new born and a new breed of Flying Thoughts that appears to have been created by a somehow living Cheops pyramid. The Dragonflies now have finally a garden of their own, a real garden like they were hoping to see someday, since these small entities were developed during the long trip (1st album). But there is one Mechanical Dragonfly that wishes to see more, insatiable. Her thoughts are out there. Video teaser can be found here
Cheops is standing, looking at the Universe. Pyther, with the 3 species living together, is a symbol of respect. The symbol is awake and well. The Floating World arrived with the rest of the people and is now steady, using a few resources to help stabilize the new homeland, thus stopping for a while its endless voyage. The Dragonfly decides to leave to explore the far corners of the Universe, but maintains the connection with Cheops, which in turn is becoming alive and intelligent. Cheops is sending a message to the Dragonfly, and thus, she dreams of a blue planet everyday. A planet with an incredible Ocean.

I have just had the honour to review the Factory Of Dreams opus 'Poles'. Now let's review another album from the Project Creation camp. 'Dawn Of Pyther' is another awesome cd from Hugo Flores and co here, featuring male vox by Paulo Pacheco, with Dubai based Zara Quiroga as the female vocalist on this epic release. It is obvious the extremely talented Hugo is a very busy musician aswell. But no matter how busy this awesome guy is, he always has the time to speak with me via email. This is another record that has left me speechless. It is more prog rock than 'Poles', but is very majestic, epic and atmospheric in places. Just check out 'Flying Thoughts' and the heavier 'Growing Feeling' for confirmation of this! This album has everything. Not strictly female fronted as such, but Zara's angelic vocals are captivating when they do appear. We have percussion, woodwind, synths, guitar and instrumental passages amongst other things on this 76+ minute epic release. All I am gonna say is just buy it, and when you have it, listen to it through headphones! Great stuff and I love it!! 9/10

...In my opinion, they’ve done a lot right on this release and taken certain production techniques to new heights. While Dawn on Pythers can be pretty pretentious at times, it’s the latest and greatest from a capable band, and it’s a progressive genesis that marks the birth of some very innovative music...

I’ve set down to review this CD for the past two or three issues. It’s a tough one. It’s not that it’s hard to listen to – far from it. It’s just that descriptions of this music do not come easy – especially in a track by track format. Well, this time around I’ve made it through. So, what is the music like? This is extremely dramatic progressive rock. It has a lot of metal in the mix, though, and I’m sure there are prog purists who would think of these guys as a metal band. There are male and female vocals both present here. It’s creative and powerful. It might be hard to describe, but it’s definitely a great listening experience...

...Flores sings, and plays electric, acoustic and bass guitars, sitar, and synths. Oh, and he wrote, orchestrated, recorded and mixed it too! I hope he’s found some time to have a rest after all that! Also featured on the album are various guests on vocals and sundry instruments, but chief of these is surely Zara Quiroga who contributes some absolutely stunning vocals across the disc. Check out either of the links above for a terrific video clip of Growing Feeling which shows her in full flight and whose power and majesty makes an ideal preview to the album. Fred Lessing also merits a mention as he contributes recorders, flutes, 12 string and classical guitars and various percussion elements and presumably helps add a strong folk vibe to much of the music on the CD.
With five of the tracks in the 8-9 minute range, Flores allows plenty of space for his compositions to develop, with lots of changes of pace, tempo and instrumentation in each composition. He also ensures that there are plenty of strong melodies to engage the listener. Although most of the compositions have very powerful segments, there is also a lot of folk influence in the melodic structures of the songs, a mixture which enables Flores to establish his own voice – this is not Ayreon-lite by any means...

...Every musician does a splendid job with appealing and technical instrumentals, decorated with multiple layers of sounds where beyond the baseline Prog Rock, jazz, folkloric and symphonic influences are also present to enrich the album’s sonic tapestry. Vocally, and despite some accent present, we get memorable performances, the interactions between the several singers worthy of highlight, since it’s quite obvious they were for the most part composed with a clear and assertive sense of melody.
We thus end up with some truly impressive songs. “Flying Thoughts” is one, with its folk flute, male supporting choirs and the vocal plays of both singers. “Dragonfly Garden” is another, atmospheric and sweet before a second half where simple but beautiful keyboards give a huge melodic contribution over a muddy riff and a prominent bass line...

...Overall, Hugo Flores and his palette of great guest musicians have done it again. They have been acquiring the taste that this particular gamut of genres permit and the different ways they can combine in a graceful yet powerful way, and they have once again turned the eyes of the progressive community (especially the fringe that like the more challenging prog merged with metal adventures) to this small country of western Europe. And the great reviews that this album has been getting are all well deserved.
For me it has always been a real pleasure to explore the musical worlds that Hugo is able to construct and present, and he is getting better everytime. He personally knows he has my total admiration for his work, and he has not let me down once so far. And honestly, I don’t expect he will ever disappoint me with his musical ideas and playing. The man is a visionary!

...Project Creation has been compared to Ayreon previously, and on this release the similarities are more obvious. I'd claim that Project Creation is a tad more complex in their musical output than Ayreon ever was, but the music should be appealing to the same basic audience...Personally I think this is a decent release, and an improvement over the first album in this series. Fans of Ayreon and others that appreciate melodramatic, bombastic and epic metal-based music are advised to check out this release. Especially if you don't mind good synth work and slightly more complex music that what Arjen Lucassen does in Ayreon.

...Despite the album lasting about 76 minutes, it never gets boring and never do I lose attention to the story. And when you listen to the album with headphones, it gets even better, as you hear what a great mixer/producer Flores is in creating such a beautiful work of art. These are musicians we need to cherish.
As Dawn On Pyther is a concept album, I am not going to pick out favourite songs. I haven't found a weak moment or a weak song. Honestly said, Dawn On Pyther is a magnificent album that will steal the hearts of anyone who loves music. Add to that the beautiful artwork and you have yourself a CD that is more than worth having. This is a CD that will not gather dust in your cabinet, but will quite often frequent your CD player...

"Dawn on Pyther" is the second part of a trilogy conceived and composed by Hugo Flores. The first album "Floating World" narrated the endeavor of the inhabitants of a dying planet to move to a new, friendlier environment, while "Dawn on Pyther" describes their adventures on their new home, planet Pyther. The musical direction has not changed dramatically since the band’s first album, but certainly you can change some differences between them. I could say that this is equivalent in many ways to Ayreon’s albums, though it has another direction. Hugo Flores has invited in this concept album several musicians and singers to perform this story, which is based on progressive rock layers, mixed with new age, art rock and -sometimes- metal...

...Everything is based on science fiction and the universe, it showcases a lively fantasy and the musicians have a high level of technical skilfulness. 'Dawn On Pyther' is not easy to swallow, but if you take the time you will discover lots of beautiful passages and charming details. Magnificent, fervent guitar leads that remind me a bit of Virgin Black for instance. Incidentally we hear a saxophone (during the title track which is the start of a musical journey of seventy-six minutes). Flutes and dreamy ambient interludes are an oasis of peace. Five vocalists (Hugo too) colour this intricate musical palette, we hear female as well as male vocals. Male vocals verge to a Yes alike timbre sometimes, but without sounding flimsy or too high. Most of the songs are very long, extended tracks of ten minutes are more rule than exception. I prefer the instrumental parts with lashing of fine guitar leads, vocals on top of this stodgy music is too much from time to time...

...The music is more cohesive than it was on the first album, and although Hugo Flores is principally a guitarist, it's the keyboard textures that define this record. They're lush and pleasing, though they won't enamor fans of the vintage '70s sounds. This is modern progressive rock in every way. We've commented favorably on Flores's guitar work since his first Sonic Pulsar CD. There are very few blazing solos - which he does very well - but the guitar tones are always rich and varied. Full credit to him for avoiding the trap of cranking out the same sounding guitar lines song after song. The female vocals are also particularly pleasing and feature throughout the record. There are, however, many sections that are protracted walls of sound with no space, and at times you might wish for a little more breathing room...
